Be a Flying Glory and the Hounds of Glory Fan... Feed the Hungry
It all started with a Halloween party in 2009.
Shannon Muir (the co-writer/lyricist for FLYING GLORY AND THE HOUNDS OF GLORY at www.flying-glory.com) needed to make something for an office pot luck. The assignment: pull off "snot-covered" pretzels. She decided to use a store-bought guacamole and see if adding cream cheese would get the consistency she wanted. It didn't quite produce the results she needed; although the consistency was great it was still too creamy. So she threw in some canned salsa verde she happened to have in the fridge after recently doing a recipe. It tasted fine, but not being a major cook, she didn't think much of it.
Until everyone started asking for the recipe. It was an accidental hit.
Fast forward to nearly a year later, when the artist and co-writer on FLYING GLORY AND THE HOUNDS OF GLORY, Kevin Paul Shaw Broden, had one of his "tweets" (posts on the Twitter feeds) picked up on and mentioned by TWO GUYS TALKING WEBCOMICS at www.tgtmedia.com. This notice came with a follow up offer to be part of WEBCOMICS: WHAT'S COOKING?, a cookbook featuring art from a variety of webcomic artists along with a variety of recipes. Proceeds from this book are going to Feeding America (formerly America's Second Harvest) and Food Banks of Canada.
Both Kevin and Shannon have a passion for taking care of the hungry and homeless. Kevin in particular has been involved for years (along with other members of his family) for a variety of food collection and fundraising efforts for a local organization in his hometown of Fullerton, California. So participating in this project came as a natural for them. It also is the first time any FLYING GLORY AND THE HOUNDS OF GLORY content has been available to the public in any format outside of the website, aside from advertising.
Shannon suggested taking what she made the prior year to the next level, seeing what it would take to make something similar completely from scratch. She knew Kevin's talent for making fresh guacamole and it seemed a good match. One weekend they set up a "test kitchen" to make sure all the steps were right. While shopping, Kevin mentioned a few alterations he'd like to try and Shannon said "go for it" because she trusted his instinct. Which turned out to be a good thing, since in the end being unable to get the tomatillos needed for fresh salsa verde, a new appetizer was born that was similar - but not the same - as the popular creation the previous year.
To find out the full recipe for what was made, and to obtain exclusive FLYING GLORY AND THE HOUNDS OF GLORY comic content, pre-order your copy of WEBCOMICS: WHAT'S COOKING? at http://tgtmedia.com/preorder.
