Some of you visiting this blog followed the adventures of FLYING GLORY AND THE HOUNDS OF GLORY since the beginning in the summer of 2001. Many others are just now finding us for the first.
We welcome you all to checking us out and finding out more of what FLYING GLORY AND THE HOUNDS OF GLORY is about.
In short, it's about a teenager who starts with aspirations of becoming a rock star along with her friends that make up her band. She's got a grandmother with superhero powers that belong to some past old glory and while interesting she sees as ancient history. However, when Debra Clay unexpectedly starts flying during a high school battle of the bands concert, her world changes forever along with her friends. Originally donning costumes to bring a superhero flair to their music performances, circumstances make them realize they need to become real superheroes and not just stage stars. During all of this, however, Debra and her friends are still teenagers caught up in the drama of growing up. This blend of superhero drama and teen angst makes FLYING GLORY AND THE HOUNDS OF GLORY endure on a near-weekly publication schedule for what will be ten years in the summer of 2011.
So if you've been along for the ride, take time to go over for a second look as we are about to come to a major turning point in the story. If you're new to us, welcome, and take the time to get to know Flying Glory and her universe.
Come join us and find out what you have been missing...

FLYING GLORY AND THE HOUNDS OF GLORY Co-Writer Shannon Muir on being part of WEBCOMICS: WHAT'S COOKING?
Shannon Muir has felt touched by the issues surrounding the hungry and the homeless going back to her teenage years.
"The first time it really hit home for me was doing a Girl Scout canned food drive in an era where you still knocked door to door. My sister and I knocked on a door and encountered a woman with several young children and it was clear she didn't have much at all. We tried everything we could think of to apologize and go, but she insisted on coming back with this giant black and white labeled can of peaches. I've never forgotten that day."
Over the years that followed, hungry and homeless themes would show up as themes in her poetry and stories, including the webcomic FLYING GLORY AND THE HOUNDS OF GLORY; one of the members of the band/superhero team, guitarist Lucy Alvarez, lived out of a car on the streets with her father as part of her character background.
"Lucy's time on the streets in downtown Los Angeles - where I myself lived for my first thirteen years in the area - makes her very sensitive to people hurting and in trouble. This bonds her very quickly to one of the perfomers chosen as part of their stage show villain counterparts and her young child, who struggle to get by from job to job before meeting Flying Glory and her friends. Their addition to the Villains of Vengeance team further opens the mind of everyone around them, including Flying Glory. Since this spirit always exists naturally in the webcomic, when we got the offer to be a part of WEBCOMICS: WHAT'S COOKING?, it just seemed a natural thing to be a part of."
WEBCOMICS: WHAT'S COOKING? is a cookbook featuring art from a variety of webcomic artists along with a variety of recipes. Proceeds from this book are going to Feeding America (formerly America's Second Harvest) and Food Banks of Canada. The book is a project of TGT Media.

FLYING GLORY AND THE HOUNDS OF GLORY Artist and Writer Kevin Paul Shaw Broden on being part of WEBCOMICS: WHAT'S COOKING?
Kevin Paul Shaw Broden, artist and co-writer for the webcomic FLYING GLORY AND THE HOUNDS OF GLORY, has always felt strongly about helping out the hungry and homeless.
"The first time that I experienced is going back... my parents were already helping out through the church and other groups... we were taking things up to one of the skid row missions in Los Angeles. I felt uncomfortable not because I felt unsafe but because we were there in our big car and these people had nothing. I was about six or seven at the most as best I can remember."
He continued to stay involved with the cause in a variety of ways, even beyond the canned food drives at school.
"Through our community organization of affiliated churches, I've participated in monthly food drives at our church plus a month long drive in August where I regularly help transport the donations to the distribution center where a family can receive two bags of needed emergency groceries a month. Through this I've also participated in an annual hunger walk which also provides for local and worldwide needs. Also, I've assisted my Dad as a chef making homemade recipies for several years at a fundraising benefit for the organization, where he has won ribbons each year of the event which is judged by professional chefs."
Kevin's experiences, especially involving the fundraisingcooking competition, made deciding to have FLYING GLORY AND THE HOUNDS OF GLORY be part of the cookbook WEBCOMICS: WHAT'S COOKING? an easy decision.
"And so I think it is good we are also able to provide a recipe that will also help feed more people worldwide through this cookbook," Kevin says about the opportunity.
