FLYING GLORY AND THE HOUNDS OF GLORY Co-Writer Shannon Muir on being part of WEBCOMICS: WHAT'S COOKING?

Shannon Muir has felt touched by the issues surrounding the hungry and the homeless going back to her teenage years.

"The first time it really hit home for me was doing a Girl Scout canned food drive in an era where you still knocked door to door. My sister and I knocked on a door and encountered a woman with several young children and it was clear she didn't have much at all. We tried everything we could think of to apologize and go, but she insisted on coming back with this giant black and white labeled can of peaches. I've never forgotten that day."

Over the years that followed, hungry and homeless themes would show up as themes in her poetry and stories, including the webcomic FLYING GLORY AND THE HOUNDS OF GLORY; one of the members of the band/superhero team, guitarist Lucy Alvarez, lived out of a car on the streets with her father as part of her character background.

"Lucy's time on the streets in downtown Los Angeles - where I myself lived for my first thirteen years in the area - makes her very sensitive to people hurting and in trouble. This bonds her very quickly to one of the perfomers chosen as part of their stage show villain counterparts and her young child, who struggle to get by from job to job before meeting Flying Glory and her friends. Their addition to the Villains of Vengeance team further opens the mind of everyone around them, including Flying Glory. Since this spirit always exists naturally in the webcomic, when we got the offer to be a part of WEBCOMICS: WHAT'S COOKING?, it just seemed a natural thing to be a part of."

WEBCOMICS: WHAT'S COOKING? is a cookbook featuring art from a variety of webcomic artists along with a variety of recipes. Proceeds from this book are going to Feeding America (formerly America's Second Harvest) and Food Banks of Canada. The book is a project of TGT Media.
